Framed vs. Frameless: Which Mesh Partition is Right For You?

8/12/2020

Wire mesh partitions have numerous uses in warehouses and manufacturing plants. They can be used for machine guarding, driver cages, and so much more. These partitions can be either framed (i.e. a finished frame all the way around the wire), or frameless. Today we’ll discuss the benefits of both systems to help you determine which wire mesh partition best fits your needs.

Framed Partitions Pros and Cons:

A framed wire mesh partition is the more traditional style. Of the two options, it is more durable than frameless partitions. Our framed partitions (Saf-T-Fence® Machine Guarding and Partitioning) are made with 10 gauge wire, and are built to withstand impact, particularly from heavy duty machinery. The framing around the panels gives the partitions a very professional, polished look.

It’s also a more expensive system; if you’re willing to spend the extra money for extra durability , framed partitions are the way to go. For instance, if you know firsthand that your machine guarding might take a lot of impact, you might want to consider the extra durability to protect your investment.

Frameless Partitions Pros and Cons:

Frameless partitions tend to get passed over in most people’s wire mesh partition purchases. These types of partitions are less common, so buyers tend to gravitate toward their framed counterparts. At Folding Guard, however, we’ve found solutions to the downsides most frameless partitions face.

Our frameless partitions (Versa Guard™ Machine Guarding and Qwik-Fence® Partitioning) are more cost-effective than framed partitions, without sacrificing an ounce of quality. In order to boost the strength and durability of the frameless partition, we add unique bends at the ends of the panels. This stabilizes the partition and eliminates the need for a frame.

At 8 gauges, our wire is also heavier than that of our competitors’ framed systems, allowing for even more strength and stability for guarding.

Another big advantage of a frameless partition is flexibility. A frameless panel can easily be adapted, cut, and resized directly in the field. With fewer part numbers than a framed panel, a frameless partition is easier to install. The optional addition of a capping channel adds even more strength to the partition and gives it an overall polished look.

So Which Partition is Best?

The short answer is that you can’t go wrong with either. Both framed and frameless wire partitions can get the job done and provide warehouse safety and security, so it really boils down to what you, personally, are looking for.

Both types of paneling can be installed to any desired height. Framed panels are available with a powder coat finish, while frameless can be galvanized or powder coated. If you’re looking for a heavy-duty, durable, and polished panel, framed partitions are the way forward. If you want something more cost-effective and adaptable without skimping on safety, then frameless is for you.
